COMMUNITY GARDEN EXPANSION
Fox Hollow Elementary PTO is looking to expand our Community Garden to include a sensory garden that would benefit all students, but also include components for those with special needs. Currently, our school grounds have zero playground options for those who are disabled.
Garden Expansion Goals:
-
Education - to continue hands-on learning through education stations.
-
Sensory - include elements that are tactile, auditory or visual.
-
Elements that benefit the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
-
Elements that benefit our special needs (friends who are sensitive to sound, or overstimulation)
-
-
Mental Health - a calming space that all students may use as a space to relax or self-regulate.
-
Create a low maintenance space that can be used year-round (weather permitting).
-
Wheelchair accessible

Funding for this project will be done through grant applications, donations and fundraising efforts. If you would like to donate or help with our expansion project; check out the options here:
Proposed Plan:
Tactile/Musical elements that blend into the garden. The sound is a lower, calming tone, and can also touch for vibrations.

Exploration Stations may include: Educational/Play elements like a weather station or bird watching.

Message station to display garden layout and different growth cycles of the plants.
Visual elements that create shade, but also reflect colors year round.
Buddy benches where students can come for brain breaks or sit with friends during recess.
Tactile Wall - set at wheelchair height; students can touch all the different textures.
Sensory Paths to promote movement and education
